New Balance 574 “Friends and Family”

2018 is upon us, and before the year ended, a special package from New Balance arrived on our doorstep!

Last year saw the revelation that was the 574 Sport, and it got us excited again about a model number that we had fallen out of love with a little over the years. Fast forward to about a week or so ago, and an incredibly refined Family and Friends version of the classic 574 is in our hands and it looks ace.

We said that we’d fallen out of love a bit with the 574, mainly due to the dodgy Asian made pairs and daft collaborations that have been released over the years, but thankfully there was still the MiUSA 574 to keep us interested.

There’s no denying that the 574 is timeless and probably the most important silhouette for New Balance as a company since the silhouette’s inauguration in 1988, so it’s great to see the brand making a real effort to create the best version of it, and in classic grey as well!

The Friends and Family package that New Balance sent features a few goodies, including the 574 itself. Starting with the box however, that in itself is next level and comes in the shape of the classic N logo. There’s also a custom coach jacket and a Japanese-designed blazer, both which feature some lovely design details. Included is a black card which features the following text;

“Without beginning or end, the 574 has been crafted over time. Unaffected by trends, the New Balance 574 represents the classic running silhouette. A timeless utilitarian design whose legacy spans generations, revitalised by the independent spirit within each era.”

Unfortunately, this release is only for Friends and Family, but we’ve seen what’s to come for the 574 in 2018 and New Balance have some big big plans, so stay tuned!
