New Balance MRT580 x colette

This year we’ve already seen two collaborations on the 580 silhouette by mita sneakers and wings+horns, and now, for summer ’16, we see French heavyweights colette join in on the 20th anniversary celebration and rework versions of the 580.

If you’re not familiar with the MT580, then let us fill you in. First designed as an trail running shoe which was inspired by the US Made M585, the MT580 was created in 1996, and this year, we are celebrating it’s 20th anniversary.

The original MT580 featured a full ground contact sole with stability technology, a lightweight cushioning element and high performance absorb technology, which made it a perfect shoe for trail running.

Fast forward some years later, in 2013, the style was re-engineered from the MT580 to the MRT580 with the addition of REVlite technology, and for colette’s collaboration, we see two of these MRT580’s, which are dressed in colette’s signature grey and blue.

The two models tell the evolution of the 580, from the original classic design from 1996 with the addition of the REVlite sole unit, to the modern, deconstructed version which was released this year.

The first colourway is the New Balance MRT580C6, which is the classic design with the addition of the REVlite sole unit, dressed in lush blue nubuck on the front and mid sections, with grey nubuck on the rear section.

The second colourway is the New Balance MRT580D5, which is the most recent deconstructed design including the REVlite sole unit, and is the reverse colourway of the MRT580C6, dressed in grey nubuck on the front and mid sections, with blue nubuck on the rear section.
